The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Scholarship Program is a scholarship designed to help women who are returning to school to pursue a career in engineering.

They need to be returning to college after at least two years of being out of school and the workforce.

As this is a need-based scholarship, the applicant must demonstrate financial need.

Who's eligible?

The SWE Scholarship Program is available to a female/woman who is studying community college, baccalaureate, or graduate programs in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology, and computer science.

Here are some eligibility requirements that you must meet:

  • You must be a female/woman who is an undergraduate/community college applicant planning to study an ABET-accredited program in engineering, technology, or computing in the upcoming academic year.
  • You can be a master and Ph.D. candidate who is enrolled or accepted at a school with ABET-accredited programs in engineering, computing, or technology.
  • You must be planning to attend full time
  • You must not be fully funded for tuition, fees, and books or equivalent.

How to Apply

The Society of Women Engineers Scholarship Application System has an open application process from December 1st to February 14th for Sophomores through Graduate Students and for Freshmen Application from March 1st to May 1st.

Reference letters are due by February 21st for Graduate Students and for Freshmen and May 8th for Freshmen.

SWE provides one application for sophomores through graduate students and one application for freshmen.

Applicants are required to complete just one application and will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible.

The Society of Women Engineers requires that all transcripts be submitted in English.

Once you confirm your eligibility and decide to apply, you will have to register online by creating your login and password and filling out your profile information.

The payments are made in September and the recipients are also announced in September.
