The AEC Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition winning entries will be those that best demonstrate the benefits of aluminum extrusion, whether by creating a new product or improving an existing one.

If you think that your design can satisfy the four judging criteria objectives of creativity, practicality, market impact or potential and product or process improvement, you are highly encouraged to submit the application form.

Full Description

The 2023 Student Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition hosted by Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) and ET Foundation challenges this year only students to think about aluminum extrusions as a holistic solution to a design problem by creating a product or system that includes at least one extruded aluminum component.

The Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition is intended to enlighten students about the many design advantages and infinite application possibilities of aluminum extrusions.

The challenge is to design a product or system featuring aluminum extrusions.

The design must be original and make use of at least one extruded aluminum component.

Who's eligible?

The Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition is open only to students for 2023.

Students currently enrolled in high school, university, community college, trade, technical or design school are eligible to enter one or more designs.

Scholarships will be presented as cash awards to the best student aluminum extrusion designs submitted.

The following award awards will be available to the winning entries in the Student Class:

  • First Place – $5,000
  • Second Place – $4,000
  • Third Place – $3,000
  • Sustainable Design – $3,500

How to Apply

It is highly recommended to include a 3-D printed prototype of your component design and your extrusion design must fit within no larger than a 10-inch circle size to be considered for an award.

Also, the applicant is strongly suggested to provide as much support material as possible to illustrate the design, its utility, and practicality.

Make sure that designs are original and make use of at least one extruded aluminum component and multiple entries may be accepted.

The criteria which will be taken into consideration when determining the winner are:

  • Creativity
  • Practicality
  • Product/Process Advantage
  • Market Impact/Potential

Besides the fact that you must design a product that incorporates at least one extruded aluminum profile, you will need to apply for the scholarship either using the form which can be found in a brochure or you can download the official entry form at www.ETFdesign.org.

Industry professionals will determine the winning designs and the award receivers will be announced in Spring.
