The Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowships is a way of helping young poets in the U.S.
This is sponsored by the Poetry Foundation, publisher of Poetry magazine and it has been existing since 1989.
It was founded by the Indianapolis philanthropist Ruth Lilly with the aim to encourage the further study and writing of poetry.

Nowadays, the foundations offer five Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowships per year with the total amount of $25800.
These amazing awards will be given to young poets in the U.S. through a national competition.
Who's eligible?
The application submission is possible from March 1 to April 30 and it is done via the online submissions system, so make sure not to miss the deadline, as all those applications received after it will be rejected.
The eligibility criteria for the Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowships are:
- The eligible applicant must reside in the U.S. or be U.S. citizens.
- He/she must be at least 21 and no older than 31 years of age
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted by April 30th online and make sure you are submitting to the Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship category on the submissions page.
The application is available on the fellowship providers official website.
We need to emphasize that application materials sent via email or standard mail will not be considered.
Poems previously published in journals or books may be included in your application.
The application process is the following:
You need to assemble your application materials as a single file which will include a 250-word introduction to your work, ten pages of poems, meaning that there can be multiple poems on one page, but the total pages must be ten and publication list with poems already published in journals or books.
This document should be named: [LAST NAME]_[FIRST NAME].doc
Once you make it, you should go to online submissions manager, follow the guidelines and submit it.
If you happen to be the lucky finalist, you will be notified by email by August 1st and the winners will be announced by September 1st.
