Letitia B. Carter Scholarship

Letitia B. Carter Scholarship is available thanks to the generosity of the Restaurant Association of Maryland Education Foundation (RAMEF) and it was created in memory of the former CEO of the Restaurant Association of Maryland.

It is aimed at Maryland inhabitants interested in seeking hospitality-related coursework.

This is a competitive scholarship and it is made available not only to high school students and college students but also to high school, college or corporate instructors and current hospitality industry professionals.

Letitia B. Carter Scholarship award amount ranges from $500 to $2000 each year and is non-renewable, so you should know that the amount varies annually depending on the availability of funds and students meeting their requirements.

Who's eligible?

So as to be accepted as a regular candidate for the Letitia B. Carter Scholarship, you must meet the eligibility criteria:

  • Applicant must be a Maryland resident.
  • Must be a high school senior or college student.
  • Must be a high school, college or corporate instructor.
  • Must be pursuing a course related to hospitality.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Students must demonstrate a minimum of 400 hours of documented industry experience.
  • Instructors must demonstrate a minimum of 1500 hours of documented industry experience

How to Apply

One question asked by many eligible applicants once they determine their eligibility is how to apply for this scholarship grant.

The applications must be submitted before the end of April 15th.

Applications and other data are accessible online on the Restaurant Association of Maryland Education Foundation (RAMEF) website.

Eligible candidates are required to submit one typed and a double-spaced essay describing any personal skills and characteristics that will help you meet the future challenges of the foodservice/hospitality industry.

Then, they are supposed to submit a photograph, a photocopy of his/her college curriculum and a current official transcript that has to be sealed and submitted from his/her current high school or college.

Two letters of recommendation must be submitted one from a supervisor and one from a teacher, while a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application must be presented for this award.
