Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship

The Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship is designed in honor of the late Trib Total Media managing editor.

His mission was to support younger generations, so the foundation continued it.

Each year, Trib Total Media picks one Western Pennsylvania student to receive up to $30,000 in scholarship funds and a summer internship at Trib Total Media.

The award will be issued directly to the recipient’s campus.

Applicants need to submit the application prior to the deadline on December 31st.

Emailed, incomplete and late applications will not be considered.

Who's eligible?

So as to make sure that you are eligible to apply for this award, you are suggested to go through the eligibility requirements that have to be met, so that you are accepted as a possible winner.

The applicant must be enrolled in or planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Journalism, English Writing or Communication and remain in the approved course of study through graduation.

He/she must be a resident of the Pittsburgh region, including, but not limited to Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Westmoreland or Washington counties.

Furthermore, he/she must maintain a minimum cumulative 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale and complete summer internship(s) at Trib Total Media.

How to Apply

The application process is made easy so that all those who meet the requirements can apply.

Applicants must submit a letter of application addressed to Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship Selection Committee stating an intent to apply for the scholarship.

They need to complete the application and provide a copy of the acceptance letter to or proof of current enrollment in an accredited 4-year college or university.

Also, the student’s most recent transcript showing a cumulative grade point average has to be submitted together with three letters of recommendation and three to five work samples.

All applicants must take part in a personal interview with the selection committee and successfully complete a writing, spelling and general knowledge exam.
