The Jay Cutler Athletic Scholarship belongs to the program of Beyond Type 1, Diabetes Scholarship foundation.

The Diabetes Scholars Foundation was established in 2008 and since then has awarded over $1.6 million in college scholarships to students with Type 1 Diabetes.

The main purpose of this award is to encourage people living with type 1 diabetes reach success.

Sponsored by the Diabetes Scholars Foundation, the Jay Cutler Athletic Scholarship awards five $5,000 scholarships to incoming freshmen.

It is annual award which is non-renewable.

The award is not given directly to the student, but the checks are distributed directly to the school in July.

Firstly, it has to be verified that the recipients have been accepted and registered at the appropriate institution.

Who's eligible?

If you want to apply for the Jay Cutler Athletic Scholarship, you have to be familiar with the eligibility requirements.

Firstly, the eligible applicants should be U.S. citizens who are incoming freshmen seeking higher education at a four-year college or university, college, technical or trade school.

Secondly, the applicants must also have type 1 diabetes and plan on playing a competitive sport while in college.

How to Apply

You will need to complete one general scholarship application and based on the data provided, the system will determine which scholarships you are eligible for and you can be considered for any and all of the scholarships.

Recipients will be selected based on activities, grades, volunteering, advocacy, leadership, essays and recommendations from both a physician/CDE treating them as well as from a high school teacher/counselor.

This scholarship is not based on financial need.

The application is done online and requires both recommendations to be completed online.

The application has to be submitted before April 15th and all the application forms received after it will not be taken into consideration.

The selection of the most deserving candidates is based on academic performance, involvement in the diabetes community and involvement in extra-curricular activities.

If you happen to be the lucky scholarship recipient, you will be notified by June 1st.
