HERO is the Home Education Recognition Organization which is dedicated to helping homeschool graduates continue their education in vocational schools, college and universities, and medical school.

HERO is encouraging the long-term continued success of the home education movement.

So the most promising students get the amazing awards since the foundation of this scholarship program in 2001.

Full Description

The organization offers three college scholarships:

  • CRAIG DICKINSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for academically excellent students.
  • MASON LIGHTHOUSE SCHOLARSHIP for service-minded students.
  • STATE OF THE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP for the student who plans to study performing or visual arts past high school.

Who's eligible?

The eligibility requirements for each scholarship are different.

The CRAIG DICKINSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP is for a student who must be graduating senior who was home educated for at least the last two years.

He/she must graduate and begin an educational program at a college or university no later than Fall of the current year.

The MASON LIGHTHOUSE SCHOLARSHIP is for an outstanding individual who has been a light of service to his/her homeschool, church or civic community.

He/she has to be graduating senior who was home educated for at least the last 4 years of high school.

He/she must graduate and begin an educational program in a trade school, college or university, or enter a missions program no later than Fall.

The STATE OF THE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP is for a homeschooled student who plans to study performing or visual arts past high school.

He/she must have been homeschooled through four years of high school and demonstrate significant experience in the arts.

Furthermore, he/she must graduate and begin an educational program in an art school, college or university no later than Fall.

How to Apply

You need to submit a completely fill out application for any of the above mentioned scholarships no later than March 1st.

The supporting documentation includes two written references with phone numbers from a coach,  pastor, scout leader, teacher,  a copy of your PSAT, SAT or ACT scores, an autobiography,  a description of your home education experience and  the service hour form  which is downloadable from the official website.
