Billy Smith Memorial Scholarship is created in honor of William Robert Smith who played both football and baseball during his high school.

Just because Billy was so generous and was always helping people that were around him, the organization decided to continue his work after his death, too.

This scholarship is  sport-related, due to the fact that those are activities Billy loved most.

Full Description

The basic aim and purpose of Billy Smith Memorial Scholarship is to help high school baseball or softball players who plan to pursue a sports-related college degree, but do not have enough financial assets to provide for all educational expenses.

When we take a look at the amount of money an applicant might get, it can be said that it might range from $500 to $10000, depending on the funds that are provided to the organization by the donors.

Who's eligible?

In order to be eligible for this scholarship, you will need to meet certain criteria meaning that the applicant must:

  • Live in Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, or Stephenson County
  • Be a graduating high school senior
  • Be in a team where he/she has played baseball or softball at least three years of baseball or softball while he/she was at high school
  • Major in a sports related field in college
  • Have GPA of 3.0/4.0 minimum
  • Must be seeking an undergraduate degree

The scholarship is awarded directly to schools, so schools must be accredited or private non-profit institutions.

There are further specific criteria which are determined by the donor once the fund is established.

How to Apply

In order to be able to get this scholarship, you do not only have to be eligible and apply for it, because there will be a sort of competition among the applicants and not all of them will receive a scholarship award.

All submitted applications will be reviewed by the CFNIL volunteers working in committees, who will make recommendations if applicants really fulfill the specific criteria established by donors.

The application process is available at the official website of the organization, where you can fill it out and submit.

The information about your application will be sent to you via letter or e-mail by May 1.
