Augustana College Rissing Scholarship is available to students of any major and they are considered for many of the awards depending on their talents and educational achievements.

While some awards require auditions or an additional application process, there are some of them that do not require all of these.

Meeting deadlines is very important when applying for the scholarship.

For musicians who plan to major in any music field, there is also Carl B. Nelson Music Education Bonus Scholarship which includes $500.

Augustana College Rissing Scholarship is awarded without regard for financial need to extremely talented young people who have proved the academic achievement and are eager to advance more.

The great thing is that scholarships are renewable for fours years and the award amount range from $1,000-$4,000.

Who's eligible?

In order to become eligible for this excellent scholarship, you will need to pass the audition organized on the following dates for students who want to get the 2019 scholarship:

  • Nov. 16, 17 (Apply by Nov. 1)
  • Jan, 18, 19 (Apply by Jan. 1)
  • Feb. 8, 9 (Apply by Jan. 20)
  • Mar. 8, 9 (Apply by Feb. 20)

How to Apply

You will need to complete the Music Application which can be found on the official website, schedule and attend the audition.

Depending on the field of music you are interested in, meaning whether you play an instrument of you are a singer, there are certain audition requirements:

For vocalists, they have to prepare two songs in contrasting styles that would last less than 6 minutes. For those who play woodwinds, they will need to prepare two contrasting movements or etudes and will be asked to sight read.

The brass players should also prepare to play two excerpts while people playing strings should prepare one movement of a suite, sonata or concerto and one additional work in a contrasting style.

There is also a special requirement for guitarists – two compositions representing two different periods of music history while pianists and percussionists should prepare to play two works from contrasting styles.

The scholarship is available for future composers and they should submit 1-3 recent compositions.
