The American Nuclear Society Scholarship Program is created by people who understand the importance of rewarding its members for their academic, services and leadership excellence through scholarships, so the award is granted to qualified student members of ANS who have demonstrated a high commitment to the standards set by the Society.

Full Description

The ANS Undergraduate Scholarship is funded by contributions from the ANS Board, professional divisions and individual donations, so the number and amount are based upon the funds available and they vary each year.

The award will be distributed at the beginning of each school year.

Who's eligible?

Those concerned about the eligibility requirements should know the following:

There are both undergraduate and graduate scholarships open to ANS student members enrolled in a course of study relating to a degree in nuclear science or nuclear engineering.

You can be both a U.S. and non-U.S. resident but you must be enrolled in and attending an accredited institution in the United States.

All applications must be sponsored by a faculty advisor of an ANS Student Section or Alpha Nu Sigma Chapter, except for the incoming freshmen applications.

Incoming freshmen scholarships are available to graduating high-school seniors who have enrolled full-time in college courses pursuing science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) with an interest in working in nuclear science and technology.

How to Apply

It is significant to get familiar with key dates related to the application process:

On November 1 the application procedure opens, February 1 is the deadline for ANS General Application, NEED, Division-Administered, and Local Section scholarships while April 1 is the deadline for Incoming Freshman Scholarship and Community College/Trade School scholarship applications.

Sometime between April 15 and May 15, the notifications will be sent.

They have an online application process and once you visit the official webpage, find the link to the application form, you will be taken to the ANS log in page where you should log in using your email and password associated with your member account.

If you are not an ANS member or have never applied before, you may not have an account and you must create one.

The selection of winners is based on academic preparation (GPA and test scores), leadership within the ANS, references, career goals and objectives, and financial need.
