The scholarship is provided by the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation located in Nashville, Tennessee.
Its aim is helping United Methodist students achieve quality higher education if they are enrolled or are planning to enroll in any of the United Methodist-related educational institutions.
The United Methodist Dollars for Scholars (UMDFS) program offers two kinds of awards and you can apply for both the General Named Endowed Scholarship and UMDFS program through UMHEF.
If you qualify for these awards, you might get $1000 as your church support, $1000 as UMHEF support. Additional $2000 will be awarded by United Methodist-related schools and UMC Conference Foundations.
That way you might get $4,000.
The award is not renewable, so you must apply annually for each school year.
There are some basic criteria for eligibility which must be fulfilled in order to get the scholarship:
You need to be an active, full member of The United Methodist Church one year before application, as the members of other Methodist denominations are not considered eligible.
You need to be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time degree program at a United Methodist-related college or seminary in the United States and if you happen to be an international student, you must be attending a United Methodist-related institution in the United States.
Students enrolled at doctoral studies are not eligible to apply.
How to Apply
The application can be submitted either via mail or online.
If you decide to submit it online, you should fill out the application form which can be found on the official website and attach the required files.
Sending it via mail would require that you download the PDF application also found on the website, fill it out electronically then print and sign before sending.

The thing that you need to have in mind before starting filling out the application is that you are not allowed to save it and come back later, but you must finish it at once or start all over again.
After the submission, you cannot change anything and incomplete documentation would not be accepted.
