Stoody-West Graduate Fellowship

The $6,000 Stoody-West Fellowships in religious journalism is created in honor of the work and lives of Dr. Ralph Stoody and Dr. Arthur West.

These two people were leaders in public relations and information services in The United Methodist Church.

Full Description

The main aim of this award is to assist one United Methodist student in his/her post-graduate study at an accredited U.S. college or university.

The winner of the fellowship will improve his/her professional competence and continue the standards exemplified by Ralph Stoody and Arthur West.

The application process ends on March 15th so make sure you provide all the documentation prior to that moment.

Who's eligible?

The scholarship committee has determined the criteria for the selection of the best and most deserving candidate, as only one person will be awarded.

In order to be accepted as a possible winner, the applicant must be a United Methodist whose plans are to pursue a career in religion journalism.

He/she has to be enrolled in post-graduate study at a school in the United States.

Religion journalism means that the person is writing news for secular and church media and for church institutions.

Applicants are judged on the following criteria:

  • Christian commitment and involvement in the life of the United Methodist Church.
  • The academic achievement has to be proved through transcripts, grade point averages and the required letters of reference.
  • Journalistic experience and talent.
  • Clarity of purpose in plans and goals for the future.
  • Potential professional ability as a religion journalist.
