The scholarship is sponsored by TVIW supporters Baen Books alongside Rob and Ruann Hampson and it is a merit-based one created to assist the deserving students.

Full Description

The main aim of this foundation is to provide scholarships to two college students who need financial aid and the founders believe that $2500 which are awarded each year should be used as a support for the payment of expensive educational fees and tuition.

Who's eligible?

For each scholarship, as well as for the Tennessee Valley Interstellar Workshop Scholarship, there are eligibility requirements that have to be fulfilled.

Not all people are eligible to apply for it and it is advisable not to waste your time if you do not meet one of the eligibility criteria.

Applicants for the undergraduate scholarships must be high school seniors in the southeast United States, meaning the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia.

Furthermore, they have to plan to pursue a  degree in a STEM related field and it should be achieved at any accredited, four-year American college or university.

As there is also a graduate scholarship, the applicant for this one should be full-time college or university student majoring in a STEM related field at an accredited college or university in the United States.

How to Apply

If you are sure that you meet the criteria and you want to apply for Tennessee Valley Interstellar Workshop Scholarship, you should know that the deadline for the applications is May 15th.

The award recipients will be known in July.

When applying, you will need to provide the supporting documents.

Firstly, you will have to completed application form in which you will be asked to describe your career goals and biographical information.

Then, you are supposed to write a 1,000 – 2,000 word essay in a word format which will represent your answers to the following questions:

  • Why should humanity become an interstellar species?
  • A near-term plan (within 20 years) for building advocacy toward interstellar space exploration.
  • What I can do to help further humanity’s expansion into space?
  •  How can space development help humanity?
