RTDNA Presidents’ Scholarship

The RTDNA Presidents’ Scholarship is designed in honor of former RTDNA Presidents Theodore Koop, Bruce Dennis, James McCulla, John Salisbury, Bruce Palmer, Dick Cheverton, Jim Byron, Ben Chatfield, and John Hogan.

Full Description

The two awarded recipients of the Presidents Scholarship will receive $2,500 and an invitation to the Excellence in Journalism conference.

Also, students must have a social security number or IRS TIN to receive this award.

Only eligible applicants will be accepted as possible scholarship winners, so if you do not meet the eligibility requirements, you should not apply for it.

Who's eligible?

The first question that you need to ask yourself prior to applying for any offered scholarship is whether you are eligible for it or not.

The eligibility criteria for the RTDNA Presidents’ Scholarship are set by the scholarship committee and only eligible candidates are encouraged to apply.

Those are students who will be sophomores, juniors or seniors at the time the scholarship is awarded and who are pursuing careers in radio, television, or digital journalism.

If you happen to be the lucky winner of this amazing award, you must be officially enrolled, full-time sophomore or above in good standing when scholarships are awarded.

A good thing to know is that past RTDNF scholarship winners are not eligible to reapply.

How to Apply

Now that you have determined your eligibility, you are probably wondering how to apply for this award.

The task number one is to complete the online application form in which you will be asked to include your contact information, experience, URL links to 3-5 work samples which should be broadcast on television, radio or online and which should be uploaded to a host site like YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, etc.

Besides the application form, you will have to provide supplemental materials such as a cover letter in which you should discuss your current and past journalism experience and describe how you intend to use the funds.

Furthermore, you have to submit your resume, a letter of recommendation written by a professor, advisor, or supervisor which should be addressed to the RTDNF Scholarship Committee.

Once you gather all these documents, you should submit them, but make sure that you are going to do that prior to the application deadline on January 18th.
