The prestigious MMUF Travel & Research Grants are kind of financial help to people in need who want to reach higher education goals but do not have enough money for it.

The scholarship is designed to help and support graduate students who participated in the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program.

Full Description

Actually, the financial means can be used to complete their research prior to the start of dissertation writing and the amount is $5,000 for one summer or one semester of travel and/or research support.

If you are interested in this scholarship and plan to apply, make sure not to miss the deadline for the application submission which is on March 16th.

The MMUF Travel & Research grants can only be used to cover dissertation research, travel to/from research sites, and photocopying of documents and/or the purchase of access to databases for research purposes, while it cannot be used for computer software or hardware and living expenses.

Who's eligible?

The eligibility criteria have to be met so as to be eligible for this scholarship and the first thing is that applicants must be Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows and candidates for the Ph.D. degree in fields recognized under the terms of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program.

Besides this, candidates must have passed all comprehensive examinations, completed all course work for the degree, and selected a dissertation topic that has been approved by the dissertation advisor in order to be accepted as a possible scholarship recipient.

The MMUF Travel & Research Grants are only available to graduate students who participated in the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program and have the financial need.

Applicants has to be recognized under the terms of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program.

The criteria for determining the winner will be based on the scholarly merit of the individual applications received.

The acceptable application must include the following:

  • The official application form, including budget form filled out;
  • CV/resumé;
  • personal statement;
  • research statement;
  • an official graduate transcript which has to be sent electronically from institution or transcript service to mmuftr@woodrow.org
  • letter of recommendation from dissertation advisor.
