Iowa Scholarships for the Arts

The Iowa Scholarship for the Arts has the main goal to support the development of outstanding high school seniors who are trying to get a higher education degree in the arts and are enrolled in accredited educational programs leading to careers in the arts.

The scholarships’ amount is $1,500 and can be used for the payment of the tuition expenses at Iowa colleges or universities.

The good thing to have in mind is the application timeline, as it is prone to change.

The Application Deadline is March 1st and the Award Notification will be on April 1.

Scholarship recipients will be asked to attend an award ceremony at the State Capitol in the spring.

The award will be paid once the recipient confirms enrollment at an Iowa college or university and will be made directly to the Iowa college or university.

Who's eligible?

The eligible applicant for the Iowa Scholarship for the Arts has to be an outstanding Iowa high school senior who excels and demonstrates a commitment to pursuing an education and career in the arts.

Furthermore, he/she must plan to attend college in Iowa and major in fine arts.

Last, but not least, the applicant must be an Iowa resident who will graduate from an Iowa high school and be pursuing a major in at least one of the following arts areas: animation, architecture, creative writing, dance, English, fashion, fine arts education, folk & traditional arts, graphic design, literature, media arts, music, theatre or visual arts.

What you need to do first is to read the guidelines and then complete the application form which can be found on the scholarship provider’s official website once the application process starts.

Each artistic discipline has separate application requirements, but generally speaking, you will need to submit artistic work samples that best represent the quality and type of your artwork.

For example, Literary Arts applicants should submit their literary artwork, while those applying for Visual Arts scholarship should submit digital images or video files.
