Grand Rapids Community Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships annually primarily to Kent County students.

One of the 500 scholarships is the Roger and Jacquelyn Vander Laan Family Scholarship which is aimed at people who could benefit from education after high school, but are least able to afford it.

They noticed the importance of support when the higher education expenses are in question, especially to the deserving students who show great education results.

Full Description

By sending one general application, there is a possibility of getting one of more than 500 scholarships provided by more than 70 scholarship funds.

You need to submit all the documentation prior to the deadline on March 1st, as all the applications received after that date will not be taken into consideration.

Who's eligible?

To be eligible for the Roger and Jacquelyn Vander Laan Family Scholarship, there are certain criteria to be met.

Students must be seniors at South Christian High School located in Grand Rapids Michigan entering a full-time program at any accredited college, university, vocational, or technical school and majoring in healthcare, education or business.

Applicants must also prove financial need and a minimum 3.0 GPA.

If you are not eligible for this award, please do not apply as you will be rejected.

How to Apply

The scholarship providers made the application process so easy, meaning that any person can apply without much trouble.

The first step is related to gathering the information necessary for the application.

You need to provide information about the awards received as well as your employment/volunteer/extracurricular activities.

Then, you need to submit the academic transcript from the most recent semester and write an essay about your choice of college, chosen course of study, career goals and information on past activities benefiting your community.

As it is a need-based scholarship, you need to provide financial information from FAFSA or other resources.

Once your documentation is gathered, you should review the list of scholarships available through Grand Rapids Community Foundation and submit your application.

It is important to regularly check your email as the scholarship committees comprised of volunteers from all over Kent County will review applications and notify you about everything related to it.
