Women in Defense Michigan established the Junior Horizon Award in 2009.
The scholarship is aimed at high school women who have a desire to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (S.T.E.M.) careers which are related to the national security and defense interests of the United States.
Only one lucky recipient of the $2500 award is selected annually.
The applicant has to submit all the documents by May 11th when the application process finishes.
So, eligible applicants are highly suggested to try their luck.
The applicants have to meet eligibility requirements prior to applying for the Women in Defense Michigan – STEM Scholarship.
The eligibility criteria set by the scholarship committee are the following:
The applicant must be a graduate or postgraduate student, or a female applicant who is a high school senior currently enrolled full time.
Being that the scholarship is just for women, the female applicant must attend a university, a four-year college, two-year college or a vocational-tech school and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
The citizenship requirements are that the applicant has to be a US citizen and a resident of Michigan or studying in Michigan.
Those people who do not meet these requirements should not submit their application forms, as they will be rejected.

What you need to submit are the following documents.
The applicant is required to provide a completed application form in which she will answer questions related to her educational and personal details.
Then, proof of U.S. Citizenship, such as Birth Certificate or U.S. Passport, is obligatory, as well as official academic transcripts.
Furthermore, she needs to submit two recommendation letters and an essay
Being that this is a merit-based scholarship, her financial need analysis is also required.
