The purpose of the Gail Achterman Leadership Scholarship is to motivate and reward women who demonstrate leadership in the transportation industry.
The Gail Achterman Leadership Scholarship was named after Gail, who served as the Chapter’s honorary chairwoman for our 2010 membership drive and was the chapter’s 2008 woman of the year.
The scholarship is aimed at an undergraduate or graduate student who not only meets the chapter’s academic criteria but who has demonstrated leadership in the transportation industry.
The Gail Achterman Leadership Scholarship will be awarded each December at the Chapter’s Winter Event and the attendance at the awards dinner is strongly recommended.
The scholarship is competitive and the winner will be selected based on the applicant’s specific transportation career goals; leadership skills, academic record; transportation-related activities or job skills; lived experiences; personal statement and letters of recommendation.
Here are the minimum applicant criteria that all scholarship applicants must meet to be considered eligible:
The scholarship is open to all women who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
They need to be currently attending a junior college, trade school, apprenticeship program, college or university in Oregon or Southwest Washington and enrolled in a degree or trade school program in a transportation-related field such as transportation engineering, planning, finance, communications, operations, construction or logistics.
