The main goal of the WTS organization is to encourage the development of women and girls in the transportation field being that there is a lower number of females in this industry.

They are achieving this by encouraging new professionals and students to pursue careers in transportation and supporting them in this by offering annual scholarships to those who deserve them.

Full Description

One of the several scholarships offered by this organization is the WTS-Minnesota High School Transportation Scholarship which is awarded to high school girls interested in the field of transportation engineering, planning, or design.

The WTS Minnesota High School Transportation Scholarship amount is $1,000 and there will be only one lucky winner per year.

The WTS Minnesota women scholarships are competitive and the committee will determine the recipient based on the applicant’s specific transportation goals, academic record, and transportation-related activities or job skills, while financial need will not be of a primary significance.

Who's eligible?

In order to be eligible for this award, the applicant must be a high school senior who is planning to reach a college degree in a transportation-related field such as civil engineering, math, urban planning, geography, economics, or public policy.

Minority applicants are highly encouraged to apply.

Ineligible and late application forms will not be taken into consideration.

How to Apply

It is important to know that all applications must be received by Emily Jorgensen before 9th December and that you can find the fillable application form on the scholarship provider’s official website.

During the application procedure, you will have to answer some questions related to your educational background, Personal Information, as well as submit a letter of recommendation written by a teacher, counselor, or principal which should be attached to your application as a pdf file and a personal statement.

Your personal statements should be short writing about three topics, and should not be longer than 500 words.

The topics you are supposed to write about are the following:

  • Why is transportation important to you?
  • How will you pursue transportation-related studies while in college?
  • Why do you think that you should receive this award?
