The SEG Scholarships are available thanks to the generosity of the donors and there are approximately 75 different scholarships.

Half of them are unrestricted scholarships while the rest have specific consideration for major/minor, university, career intention, involvement in student activities, year of study, or particular research field.

All SEG Scholarships are based on merit and students must intend to pursue a college curriculum directed toward a career in applied geophysics.

Full Description

It is significant to get familiar with deadlines and submit all the required documents prior to March 1st when the application procedure ends.

Late, incomplete and applications sent by ineligible candidates will not be taken into consideration.

Who's eligible?

The most important thing to have in mind when thinking about applying for any scholarship is whether you qualify or not.

Not all scholarships are available to all students, so, to be eligible for the SEG Scholarships you must be a student who:

  • Is a high school senior planning to attend college next year or an undergraduate or graduate college student;
  • Has excellent academic standing with above-average grades;
  • Is intending to pursue a college curriculum directed toward a career in applied geophysics.

Meeting these criteria makes you a perfect match for this award and you are highly encouraged to apply.

Otherwise, your application will be rejected.

How to Apply

Once the eligibility is determined, you are required to submit an online application and the application forms are available and accepted from 1st November through 1st March.

In order to successfully apply besides the application form, students must include current transcripts and email addresses for two faculty members who have agreed to serve as references.

When the application process is over and all applications received, the scholarship committee will review all the applications from mid-March through mid-May.

A committee consists of eight professional geophysicists who will independently rank each application. The winners and other applicants are notified of results in mid-June.

The period from June to September will be devoted to the verification of enrollments by receiving acceptance documents and only then the funds will be distributed.
