The Ruth Clark Furniture Design Scholarship is available thanks to its generous sponsor – International Furnishings and Design Association Educational Foundation.

The Ruth Clark Furniture Design Scholarship funds are paid directly to the recipient’s school and can be used for tuition payment.

Full Description

The Ruth Clark Furniture Design Scholarship was established by Carolinas’ Chapter to honor Ruth Clark who is known as one of the chapter’s founding members.

Ruth Clark is a design consultant and furniture designer for The Clark Connection. T

The completed application packet must be submitted prior to the application deadline which is on March 31, being that late and incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration, besides the fact that the applicant is eligible for the award.

The award may be used for both full-time and part-time study at any post-secondary institution in the United States.

The amount awarded is $3,000 and there is only one lucky recipient per year.

Who's eligible?

So as to be considered eligible for the Ruth Clark Furniture Design Scholarship, applicants must have completed four design courses in post-secondary education at the time of application and be majoring in Interior Design or a related field and must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate students majoring in DESIGN with a focus on residential upholstered and/or wood furniture design.

When the eligibility requirements related to the residency status are in question, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

How to Apply

Students who consider themselves eligible for this award should get familiar with the application requirements.

Besides the Portfolio which has to be submitted, there are additional supporting documents that each applicant has to provide.

Those are letters of recommendation, an essay, and transcripts.

The essay must be 200-400 word long and it should be about applicant’s long- and short-term goals, special interests, community service, and what inspired him/her to pursue a professional career in this field.

The portfolio should consist of five different examples of original furniture designs,  while letters of recommendation must be from an instructor/professor on official school stationery.

The transcript of the student’s course work must verify the full-time status and shows GPA.
