The NGA Foundation exists since 1990 and it aim is to support students planning careers with independent grocers by offering them financial aid via various scholarships.

The NGA foundation together with its affiliates has awarded over $1 million in scholarships to our future leaders.

Full Description

The NGA Foundation is a nonprofit organization which provides independent retailers with tools. It has created two different scholarships thanks to the generosity of donors and affiliate groups.

One of them is a legacy scholarship, which is given in the name of an individual or individuals who contribute directly to the fund each year.

The other is the Asparagus Club Scholarship which is awarded for up to four semesters, if  the recipient continues to meet eligibility requirements.

Who's eligible?

If you are asking yourself whether you are eligible for NGA Foundation scholarships or not, you should take a look at the following eligibility requirements:

You have to be a full-time enrolled sophomore through post graduate studies who has a minimum of a cumulative 2.5 GPA.

Your future plans have to be related to a career in the independent grocery industry

These scholarships are merit based, but the financial need is also going to be taken into consideration.

The student himself/herself will not get the money, but it will be mailed directly to the university.

How to Apply

The application process starts in January when the application details are posted and it is important to pay attention to the deadline as if you apply after it, your application will not be taken into consideration.

The deadline is usually April 19th.

If you complete one application, you will be considered for all scholarships for which you are eligible.

The process of applying involves filling out the application on the official website and submit it to the NGA Foundation.

You are also supposed to provide the following supporting materials

  • Official or unofficial transcript
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Personal statement describing your accomplishments

Make sure to submit all the documents as incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Letters of recommendation have to be written by a professor, employer or mentor.

The NGA Foundation would select committees of reviewers who will choose the most eligible applicant to become the winner of the award.

Scholarship winners will be announced in August.
