The MIT THINK Scholars Program has the goal to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics among young learners by supporting and funding projects developed by high school students.

The program is available thanks to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and technology companies and educational organizations as part of MIT TechX.

Full Description

If you happen to be the finalist, you will receive:

  • All expenses paid trip to MIT that includes:
    • Presentation of research proposals
    • Meeting with MIT professors in the student’s area of interest
    • Personalized tours of MIT research laboratories
    • Attending MIT’s spring tech symposium
    • Opportunity to attend MIT classes and experience MIT student life
  • The budget of $1000 to implement a project
  • Weekly mentorship meetings with MIT student mentors

Who's eligible?

Each student is eager to find out what the eligibility requirements are when any scholarship is in question:

So as to be allowed to apply for the MIT THINK Out of the Box Scholars Program, you must be a full-time high school student at the time of your application and a US resident during the academic year you are applying for the award.

Any full-time high school student attending a public, private, or home-school in the Greater Boston Area is eligible to apply.

The Greater Boston Area is defined as schools/homes within a 30-mile radius of Boston City Hall.

US citizenship is not required and those US citizens living outside the country are not eligible.

How to Apply

The application process for entering the MIT THINK Competition starts with registration, meaning that you are supposed to create an account using your email address and enter the required personal information.

Then, you need to submit your proposal: upload your project proposal, making sure to follow the

instructions outlined below in Proposal Guidelines available on the scholarship provider’s official website.

There should be one submission per applicant and only one or two students per project.

It is very significant to be acquainted with the application timeline.

All application material must be submitted prior to the deadline on January 1st.

The finalist decisions will be made in Mid-January and the Finalists’ Trip to MIT will be in early February.
