The Michael R. Mettler Memorial Scholarship is is there to help local graduating high school seniors and current college freshmen, sophomores, or juniors.

These students have to be seeking a degree in agriculture.

The main sponsor of this scholarship is the Kern County Farm Bureau which is trying to improve the state of agriculture through education of young people.

Even though this scholarship is aimed at students who plan to study or are currently pursuing an agriculture or agriculture-related major, the veterinary studies students who are pursuing a degree in large animal husbandry would also be considered and are encouraged to apply.

Full Description

There is one award per year paid in one check to the recipient who will be announced in late April.

The payment of the scholarship will be in September upon receipt of college enrollment transcripts.

The greatest thing about the Michael R. Mettler Memorial Scholarship is that award is $500 offered each academic year and is renewable up to three times if the recipient continues to fulfill the eligibility requirements.

Who's eligible?

In order to get this scholarship, you will need to meet some eligibility criteria.

Firstly, you have to be a graduating high school senior or college student.

Students must be pursuing a degree in agriculture or a related area while high school seniors have to have plans for the studies in the same area as well.

Students majoring in large animal husbandry are also considered eligible for this award.

How to Apply

The application process, as for any other scholarship, requires certain forms filled out and additional documentation attached.

While filling out the application form you will be asked some of personal questions and you should write a short biography which will include the reasons why you chose your college major, your financial state and your plans for the future.

You should also list three personal or academic references that the scholarship committee can contact if that is necessary and provide data related to your academic and citizenship honors.

The documents that have to be submitted are high school transcripts and college records.

All these should be sent before April 12 and those which come later would not be accepted.
