The Khyentse Foundation is proud to offer the KF Translation Studies Scholarship.

The main aim of this foundation is to support students in advanced degree programs in translation studies and Buddhist philosophy.

Full Description

Each year the scholarships vary in size, but the maximum amount is US$5,000.

The KF Translation Studies Scholarship supports students even though they have already been the recipients, as they are allowed to apply each year for continued funding for the duration of their degree program, but this is possible only if the recipient is doing well in their studies and meeting the requirements of the TSS program.

Who's eligible?

In order to be eligible for this amazing award, students must be currently enrolled in a program of translation studies or Buddhist philosophy and with the aim to become translators or are currently working as translators.

So as to be possible winners, candidates must already have translation experience and be enrolled in an advanced degree program (MA, PhD, or MPhil) in an accredited university worldwide.

Preference is given to those translators working in classical Buddhist languages such as Tibetan, Pali and Sanskrit.

In case you are a student translator who does not fulfill these criteria, you are welcome to apply to the Ashoka Grants or Buddhist Study Scholarship program.

How to Apply

The application process starts on February 1 and make sure to submit your application by March 1 when the process ends.

The applicants will be notified about the outcome by July 1st.

The application process requires that you email the completed application form to scholarships@khyentsefoundation.org.

In order to apply for this scholarship you need to fill out all sections of the application and provide correct data as the foundation would like to know where you are studying and what the scholarship funds would pay for.

Throughout the essay, in fewer than 400 words, you should answer the required questions and make the answers simple and precise.

The additional documents that you also need to submit are most recent academic transcript, one page translation sample and the text in its original language and letter of recommendation from a professor, mentor or other academic reference.
