Since its creation in 1946, the JACL has been helping students achieve their educational dreams with the National Scholarship and Awards Program.

National JACL scholarship offers up to $5000 to one outstanding student and that way the Japanese American Citizens League wants to secure and safeguard the civil and human rights of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans.

Full Description

The Henry and Chiyo Kuwahara Creative Arts Scholarship is available to students who are entering the creative & performing arts and are one-time awards.

Who's eligible?

There are certain eligibility criteria that have to be fulfilled so as to be accepted as a possible scholarship winner.

 

Every applicant must be an active National JACL member.

JACL membership is available to all people of any ethnic background.

So as to be eligible, applicants need to hold an Individual or  Student/Youth Membership, and a Couple/Family membership by a parent will not meet this requirement.

Furthermore, he/she must be planning to attend full time at a college, university, trade school, business school, or any other institution of higher learning within the United States at the undergraduate or graduate school level.

Entering Freshman applicants must be high school seniors while Creative & Performing Arts applicants cannot be professional artists.

How to Apply

When the application process is in question, applicants may apply under only one scholarship category.

The application materials for this scholarship include a complete a JACL Scholarship Application,  JACL Membership, Personal Statement,  Letter of Recommendation, Official Transcripts including SAT and/or ACT test score verification,  Work Experience and JACL and Community Involvement.

You are recommended to go through applications brochure & guidelines and follow them so as to successfully submit the application.

The application process starts in November and the applications are available through National JACL Headquarters & the JACL website.

The application process finishes on March 1, so make sure that your application is sent prior to this date, and mailed to the local JACL chapter to which you belong.

Applications must be complete including 3 copies and include all supporting documents.
