The Furman Scholars program is established so as to finaicaily support high school juniors who exhibit strong academic potential and show significant involvement in extracurricular activities.
The only way of becoming the Furman scholar is that your high school guidance counselor nominates you for this program.
The selected scholars will receive at least $7,500 in scholarships upon acceptance into Furman University.
The Furman Scholars program provides at least $20,000 in institutional aid offering merit-based, athletic or talent-based awards to those selected scholars who are admitted to Furman University.
As a Furman student, there are a number of scholarships that you can pursue to fund your education.
You can either get a merit-based scholarship and the selection will be made according to the following criteria:
- Strength of curriculum
- Test scores (if submitted)
- Co-curricular activities
Each scholarship has its own eligibility requirements and application process.
For music and other talent scholarships, you will have to pass Your Furman Music Audition.
The Furman University Furman Scholars Program committee has determined the criteria according to which the candidates will be selected as eligible or not.
To receive award counselors must nominate students by April 1, and some additional nominations will be accepted until June 1st when the nomination process finishes.
Nominees must be juniors who meet all of the following criteria:
- A genuine interest in education in the liberal arts and sciences
- A high school weighted grade-point average of 3.5 or higher
- Involvement in extracurricular activities and community service
- Demonstrated leadership potential
- At least a 1360 on the SAT, 1360 on the PSAT or a 29 on the ACT or Aspire (excluding writing)
How to Apply
Counselors can nominate a student for the Furman Scholars program by visiting the official website and finding a link that will lead them through the whole nomination process.
The scholarship is renewable and there is a special application form for it.
To be applying applicants must complete the scholarship application form that can be downloaded from the website once the application process begins.
Ineligible applicants are suggested not to waste their time applying, being that their application forms will not be taken into consideration.
