The Francis D. Lyon Scholarships are designed so as to help students of film making who have financial issues which affect their further education.

The scholarship is created in honor of Mr. Lyon, who was a distinguished motion picture and television editor, director and producer.

He is famous due to the fact that he got an Oscar from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for best film editor in 1948 for the movie “Body and Soul.”

Full Description

The Francis D. Lyon Graduate Fellowship is awarded thanks to a generous gift made by Brother “Pete” Lyon, UCLA ’28 to the Foundation, with the aim to assist students who shared his passion for making films.

The Francis D. Lyon Graduate Fellowship is awarded each year and it is given to a graduate student in the field of film making or a closely related field such as theatre/drama, writing or entertainment.

However, the students of film making will be given priority.

The criteria for choosing the ideal candidate will be based on talent, academic excellence, and financial need.

Currently, the fellowship is approximately $2,500.

 

Who's eligible?

The scholarship is available to both undergraduate and graduate students and there are certain eligibility requirements that have to be met so as to be considered as a possible recipient.

The Lyon Scholarship eligibility criteria is that a student must have completed two full years of college by June 30th of the year the scholarship is to be awarded.

The scholarship is available to individuals who are not members of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity as well.

When it comes to eligibility requirements we have to mention that the student is required to be enrolled in a college or university in the United States or Canada.

How to Apply

The candidate has to show the evidence of talent so you are strongly encouraged to include a work sample as part of your application.

Furthermore, you need to provide academic excellence and financial need with your application.

Applications for Lyon Awards are open to any person pursuing an education in filmmaking and the deadline for completed Lyon Award applications is March 17th.

So as to apply, you need to submit a completed application, a work sample and a transcript .
