The scholarship is named after Dr. Wesley Eckenfelder, Jr., who is known as a person who trained thousands of graduate students and professionals in the science and art of industrial wastewater treatment.

The Wesley Eckenfelder, Jr. scholarship has the aim to support students who are interested in pursuing a career in the environmental profession.

The Dr. W. Wes Eckenfelder Jr. scholarship is available thanks to the generosity of the sponsor – The Brown and Caldwell.

Full Description

The amount of money that the winner will receive is $5,000 and the number of lucky awardees is determined each year.

Scholarship money can only be used for university/college expenses.

All candidates must submit with a completed application with all the additional documents prior to the deadline on April 30th.

Who's eligible?

The scholarship committee has determined some eligibility requirements that applicants must fulfill so as to apply for the award:

The applicant must be a graduate student or a postgraduate student who attends a university or a four-year college and studies full time.

His/her academic standing has to be good, with a minimum of 3.0 GPA.

He/she must meet a citizenship requirement, meaning to be the resident of the USA.

The scholarship is restricted to students trying to reach a degree in one of the following fields: Biology, Construction Engineering/Management, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Health, Electrical Engineering/Electronics, Energy and Power Engineering, Engineering-Related Technologies, Earth Science, Engineering/Technology, Environmental Science, Geography, Hydrology, Meteorology/Atmospheric Science, Mechanical Engineering, Marine/Ocean Engineering, Natural Sciences, Natural Resources, Oceanography, Paper and Pulp Engineering, Surveying, Surveying Technology, Cartography, or Geographic Information Science, Science, Technology, and Society

How to Apply

You would certainly wonder how to apply for the award, and here are some guidelines related to what you will need for the application process.

Besides the completed application form, applicants are required to write an essay and a resume.

An essay should be 250 words minimum and it should speak about a personal experience that influenced your decision to focus on environmental studies.

You should also submit two written recommendations, with at least one from a university official and an official transcript of your academic record.
