Catharine Lealtad Scholarships

Catharine Lealtad Scholarships are named for Macalester’s first African American graduate, Catharine Lealtad, who graduated in 1915 and are awarded in her honor annually to a deserving minority student.

Lealtad was a strong and brilliant woman who made strides towards racial, gender and social justice through her life’s work.

She was an important figure in the Macalester history.

The applicant must not be a transfer student.

Half of Macalester students received a merit-based scholarship.

How to Apply

The Admissions committee’s job is to select recipients and there is no special application to complete, which is not the case with other scholarships.

Students applying Early Decision will be considered for merit-based scholarships as students who apply Regular Decision.

If you happen to be the lucky student selected for merit-based scholarships, you will be notified by the Admissions Office at the same time you are notified of admission.
