The Family of Dado and Maria Banatao gives five $ 5000 renewable awards to help students with financial need who are pursuing a career in engineering, physical, computer or environmental sciences.

Full Description

Awards are for undergraduate students only.

The scholarship is renewable for four years if the recipient achieves satisfactory academic performance in a full-time undergraduate program and continues to have successful educational achievements.

Who's eligible?

The eligibility criteria for the Diego Banatao Family Filipino American Education Scholarship are required to be fulfilled so that the application is accepted.

You have to be an incoming freshman enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

You have to be majoring in one of the following fields: engineering, mathematics, computer science, environmental or physical science

When the ethnic heritage is in question, applicant has to be of Filipino heritage (at least 50%).

He/she has to prove the financial need and be the resident of one of the following Northern California counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Sacramento, San Benito, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus or Yolo, as well as Southern California counties: Los Angeles, Orange or San Diego.

People who are interested in achieving health careers are not eligible for this scholarship.

The selection criteria for the determining who is the most deserving applicant are the following:

  • Academic achievement
  • Educational and career goals in engineering/science
  • Personal motivation and potential to succeed
  • Honors
  • Work experience
  • Financial need

How to Apply

If you consider yourself eligible, you should get well-informed about the application process and submit all materials to the Asian Pacific Fund by the deadline, February 26th.

The applications received after the deadline would not be accepted.

The materials and documents that have to be submitted are a completed student application form, essays, transcript of grades, resume and two letters of recommendation, at least one from a current teacher.

Letters have to be on official school or organization letterhead and should include the student’s first and last name.
