The purpose of the Arnold W. Fritz Scholarship is to encourage college students to study environmental science, conservation, natural history and nature-related subjects including environmental law or business.

Full Description

The procedure for Awarding of the Scholarship is the following:

Committee members shall submit their individual scores for each applicant to the committee chairman by March 31 and all applicants will be notified by May 15 about the winner.

The selection committee will determine the most deserving applicant based on:

  1. A completed application form
  2. A typed essay
  3. Grade point average
  4. Three letters of recommendation
  5. Previous experiences showing dedication to caring for the environment.

The scholarship award will be made payable to the student when the student shows proof of enrollment and payment of tuition.

Who's eligible?

So as to be eligible for the award, the application must reside in or attend college in Carroll, Coshocton, Stark, Tuscarawas, or Wayne County or any county contiguous to these counties and he/she must be entering the fall term as Junior level or above at an accredited college or university at the time of the award.

The eligible applicant must be a full-time student majoring in any discipline that will relate to the foundation’s purpose.

How to Apply

The applicant must submit an official college transcript with the application to the Canton Audubon Society.

It has to snow that the applicant has a minimum 2.5-grade point average as a full-time student on a 4.0 scale.

Furthermore, the references are an important part of the application.

Each applicant must submit three references written by instructors, and one of these instructors must be in the applicant’s major field.

A letter of recommendation and a copy of the Recommendation Form from each of these references, which can be found on the scholarship provider’s website, must be received by the selection committee by the due date.

The essay of 200 words should be about how they expect to make a difference in the environment.
