AMS Graduate Fellowships

The AMS Fellowship Program is designed to financially support outstanding students who are pursuing graduate education in the atmospheric or related sciences.

The program has been awarding so many scholarships up to now, and approximately 360 students have been AMS fellowship recipients.

The scholarship is available to first-year graduate students and it is financial support during the first year of graduate study.

What the lucky recipients will get is a $25,000 stipend for a nine-month period in the academic year as well as partial travel support to attend the AMS Annual Meeting.

The number of winners is determined annually depending on the fund available and the quality of the applicants.

Women, minorities, and disabled students who are known to be traditionally underrepresented in the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences are highly encouraged to apply and will be given preference during the winner selection.

Who's eligible?

The first thing you need to have in mind when applying for any kind of scholarship is to get familiar with the eligibility requirements.

In order to be eligible to apply for a fellowship, a student must be entering their first year of graduate school and pursuing a degree in the atmospheric or related sciences at a US accredited institution.

He/she needs to be of a great academic standing which will be proved by a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0-point scale.

The scholarship is available to U.S. citizens or permanent residents only.

There is no age restriction.

If you are ineligible for this award, you are suggested not to waste your time applying, as your application will not be accepted.

How to Apply

The application process is simple so that everybody who is interested and eligible can apply.

The eligible prospective candidates are those people who are pursuing a degree in the fields of atmospheric sciences, chemistry, computer sciences, engineering, environmental sciences, hydrology, mathematics, oceanography, and physics and his/her task is to complete all sections of the application and upload all required supporting documents.

The complete application requires the submission of three written references, official transcripts, and GRE score reports.

It is very important to submit the application for consideration by the deadline date on 1st January.
