Alan Lucas Educational Scholarships

The scholarship is funded and supported by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.

Full Description

The award amount and the number of winners might vary, but the minimum award is $1,500 and the deadline for application submission is April 1st, so make sure you have provided all the materials prior to that moment.

The study areas which are accepted are architecture, electrical engineering, interior design, lighting, lighting application, lighting design, theatre.

Who's eligible?

The eligible applicants are full-time students who want to pursue lighting education or research as part of their undergraduate, graduate or doctoral studies.

Applications for the Alan Lucas Memorial Educational Scholarships will be accepted only by those students who will be a junior, senior, or graduate student in an accredited four-year college or university located in Northern California including San Luis Obispo, Fresno, and north.

Furthermore, the eligible student must submit photocopies of all the required documents so as to be considered as a possible scholarship winner.

How to Apply

When we think about applying for this award, we should have in mind what kind of submission requirements are there as each scholarship committee has some.

You will need to provide your Statement of Purpose which should consist of a description of the academic work a Lucas Scholarship will support.

Undergraduate applicants should describe the course work proposed while graduate students should describe specific project work.

Then, you need to submit a description of Work in Progress and appropriate transcripts from the involved school.

More than three letters of recommendation are mandatory and shall accompany each application.

One letter should be from a person involved in lighting academically or professionally and he/she should be able to speak about the applicant’s qualifications.

The agreement has to be signed proving that applicants will use the Scholarship for the purposes described and will not use it for any other purpose.
