The American Institute of Architects Silicon Valley is there not only to provide education, but to support the architectural profession.

This support is achieved by providing resources for its members, who are the leaders in the design industry.

AIA Silicon Valley William R. Hawley Scholarship helps the future of the architectural profession, by supporting young architects. The program of this scholarship application and announcement of the winners is the following:

  • February 4th – Scholarships Open
  • April 4th – Scholarship Deadline all Scholarships must be in by 4:00 pm
  • April 8-19th – Scholarship Submission Reviews
  • April 22-May 3rd – Scholarship Finalist Candidates Live Interviews
  • May 6th  – Scholarship Winners Notified
  • May TBD – Chapter Scholarship Celebration

Who's eligible?

The eligibility requirements for the scholarship that this institute provides are:

You have to be a legal resident of Santa Clara County

You have to be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program which has to do with a future career in architecture

If you are an undergraduate student, you must have completed a minimum of two years of college work in required major.

It is a great thing that previous recipients of this scholarship are also eligible and encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

If you find yourself eligible, you should apply for this scholarship by submitting a portfolio of your work, which will include all your previous works related to architecture and design, and will prove your design abilities.

It has to be the independent work and your portfolio will become the property of AIA Silicon Valley.

Make sure that the maximum file size of your portfolio does not exceed 24MB.

It can include sketching, paintings, drawings, sculptures, and school work which will show your development form the earliest periods up till now.

Also, a written statement of personal goals should be sent, and should not exceed one page, as well as two letters of recommendation signed by professors and/or practicing professional architects.

You will need to provide a proof of enrollment in a collegiate institution in which you can gain a degree in architecture.

Besides all these documents, you are supposed to send a completed application form which can be found online and submit everything by 4:00 PM, April 4.

If you happen to be among the chosen finalists, you must be available for a live 30-minute interview.

Interviews are usually scheduled between April 22 and May 3rd while the winners are announces on May 6.
