The Travis Society scholarship program offers scholarships thanks to its donors.

The Walter J. Travis Memorial Scholarships is being awarded since 2009 each year to the most deserving candidate.

It is created to honor the contributions of Walter J. Travis in the game of golf.

He was known as the founder and editor of one of the most influential golf magazines of his time, The American Golfer.

Five applicants will become lucky winners of the $1,000 award, so do not waste your time and apply for this award if you consider yourself eligible.

This scholarship may be used only for educational expenses, tuition, and books.

Who's eligible?

So as to be able to get the Travis Society’s Scholarships you need to be a student pursuing a career in one of the following professions: landscape design/golf course architecture; golf course turfgrass management/golf course superintendent; professional golf management, club professional, or sports journalism with a special interest in golf.

If you are an interested applicant for The Walter J. Travis Memorial Scholarship, you should get familiar with the eligibility requirements and apply only if you meet them.

First, you must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited two-year or four-year college/university in Landscape Architecture, Journalism and PR, Sport Management or Park & Recreation Management.

Awards are renewable but only if a winner re-applies.

What you need to submit so that your application is considered complete is a letter of recommendation from at least one of your professors, and evidence of maintaining a 3.0 GPA, or higher.

  • References/recommendations

  • Academic record
  • Involvement in golf-related interests and activities.
  • Career goals
  • Participation in sports and community affairs

The Scholarship Application form can be downloaded from the website, and it should be filled out and returned via mail or email before the deadline on May 1st.

Top 6 applicants will be selected and their applications will be sent to the Scholarship Chairman whose job is to identify the winners.
