The Sagebrush Circuit – Lew & Jo Eklund Educational Scholarship

The Sagebrush Circuit – Lew & Jo Eklund Educational Scholarship is awarded thanks to the Appaloosa Youth Foundation.

It is aimed to financially support a college junior, senior, or graduate student who is pursuing a degree in a major field of study that is closely related to the equine industry, being that college expenses are quite high and cause many young learners to give up their studies.

Full Description

There will be only one most deserving winner who will get a $2000 award and he/she will be determined after a careful review of all the applications by a qualified panel of educators selected by the Appaloosa Youth Foundation.

The decision will be based upon scholastic aptitude, leadership potential, the ability to communicate community and civic responsibilities, financial need and presentation.

Who's eligible?

The eligibility criteria are set by the scholarship committee and so as to be considered eligible for this award, the applicants must currently maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent 5.2 on a 6.0 scale.

The eligible applicant is a current member of the Appaloosa Horse Club or the Appaloosa Youth Association to be eligible to apply for an Appaloosa Youth Foundation scholarship, while those students who are in the immediate family of an employee, representative, or national director of the ApHC or the AYF are not eligible to apply.

Furthermore, the applicant has to be a college junior, senior, or graduate student pursuing a degree in an equine-related field so as to be considered for the award.

How to Apply

Besides the filled out application form, each applicant must provide three letters of recommendation and an official college transcript must accompany each application.

With the application, the applicant has to submit proof of Acceptance/Enrollment such as an official letter of acceptance, and a copy of his/her official SAT, ACT or similar test result.

Letters should be confidential and must be mailed separately from the application by the person who is writing the reference himself/herself.

The applicant must write a 200 to 400-word essay and send one high-quality photo on photo quality paper.
