Pride Foundation is the organization whose aim is to help both people who express themselves as members of LGBTQ community and people who are their allies living across the Northwest.

The first scholarship was awarded in 1993 and since then more than $5 million has been given to 1,800 students in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.

It was created by Brian M. Day who wanted to support gay men of color who were leaders in their communities, but who did not have enough financial assets for higher education.

So, people belonging to LGBTQ communities and allied students of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply for it.

Full Description

When pursuing a post-secondary degree many people have difficulties providing enough money to cover all the tuition and education costs.

There is no restriction related to the selection of education fields or student’s background and students only need to complete one application.

Who's eligible?

The scholarship program supports students who are leaders either within the LGBTQ community or within their field of study, as well as those who are economically, racially, socially, geographically, or politically deprived.

The requirements that an applicant must fulfill are:

  • to be a resident of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, or Washington
  • to be pursuing post-secondary education in community colleges, four-year public or private colleges or universities, certificate programs, vocational programs, law schools, medical/dental/veterinary schools, or graduate education.

The studies should not be done in the above mentioned states, the scholarship money can be used for tuition, student fees, on-campus room and books and it is not awarded directly to a student, but to the chosen school.

How to Apply

People belonging to LGBTQ communities experience tremendous societal barriers, and they are in need of financial support in order to be able to pursue and fulfill their dreams.

If you consider yourself eligible, you can apply for this scholarship on the official website of the Pride Foundation.

You will have to provide transcripts and all the required data and necessary documentation and this should be submitted either online or via mailing address which can also be found on their website.
