The Nellie Martin Carman Scholarship is for one academic or school year in any university or college in the State of Washington.

The amount of the award will be fixed on an individual basis by the Carman Scholarship Committee, but shall not exceed $2,000.

Full Description

The Committee will determine the candidate who is the most deserving and who meets all the requirements of Mrs. Carman’s Trust according to the written credentials and by personal interview.

The award may be renewed from year to year if the winner maintains a 3.0 average or equivalent and keeps meeting all the other requirements.

Who's eligible?

A Carman Scholarship is acceptable only for courses other than music, sculpture, painting, drawing, interior decorating or domestic science.

The only way of being accepted as a possible scholarship winner is to meet the eligibility criteria.

A Carman Scholarship applicant must be a graduate of a public high school in King, Snohomish or Pierce County in the year of the appointment and an American citizen.

Furthemore, he/she has to be enrolled in a college or university in the state of Washington on a full-time basis.

How to Apply

Each public high school in King, Snohomish and Pierce County is given a chance of nominating one candidate from the senior class.

Then, the application blanks will be sent to the high schools in January of each year and the applicant is supposed to fill it out and include a copy of the applicant’s Student Aid Report or a copy of the most recent IRS Income Tax Return 1040.

Also, one letter of recommendation and a small photograph have to be attached.

Additional documents that need to be provided are a copy of the applicant’s birth certificate or other acceptable proof of citizenship, official grade transcript and a copy of the applicant’s SAT/ACT test scores.

Application forms and all additional material has to be sent prior to March 1st to be considered.
