The main aim of the Dan Klepper Memorial Scholarship is to support the next generation of communicators.

The scholarship is named after Dan Klepper, who was a legendary outdoor writer for the San Antonio Express-News and who was one of the founders of the Texas Outdoor Writers Association.

So as to honor his active work in this organization, the Texas Outdoor Writers Association decided to provide this amazing scholarship.

The winners will be presented at the TOWA annual conference in February.

Who's eligible?

The $2,000 Dan Klepper Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to one or more students who are currently enrolled at an accredited Texas college or university and who are preparing for a career related to environmental conservation, or wildlife management and conservation.

The preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate career goals that include communicating with the general public through mass communication and examples of work published in mass media.

Communication careers may be in the areas of print media, television, radio, or electronic media.

How to Apply

Those people who believe they meet the scholarship criteria are highly suggested to apply for this award

They need to have in mind that the application will be accepted only if it is completed and all the documents provided.

The application must include a statement of your career goals and your plans to accomplish them after graduation, a written summary of your outdoor activities, both professional and volunteer, your published articles, newspaper stories, photos, etc. , a copy of your degree plan and an unofficial transcript showing all college work, a letter of recommendation from your department chair or your faculty advisor, as well as any other letters of recommendation if you consider that they may affect the committee’s decision.

The deadline for the applications to be received is February 1st, and all the documents received after this date will not be considered.
