The Captain James J. Regan Memorial Scholarship is available thanks to the generous sponsor – Learning for Life.

National Technical Investigators’ Association Captain James J. Regan Memorial Scholarship is a merit-based award and the winner will be determined based on his/her achievements, academic record, leadership ability, extracurricular activities, and a personal statement on “What significance I place on a technical background in law enforcement.”

Here is some general information about the Captain James J. Regan Memorial Scholarship.

The individual award amount is $500, while the total amount awarded is $1,000.

The number of winners each year is 2 and it is very significant to provide all the application materials prior to the application deadline on March 31st as late and incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration.

It is your task to carefully review the requirements to be sure you qualify for this financial aid and confirm information with the program before applying.

The award money may be used for the full-time study or any undergraduate study at any post-secondary institution which must be accredited.

The winners will be presented at the national law enforcement Explorer conference or at a local ceremony.

Who's eligible?

When it comes to the eligibility requirements for this award, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident whose major career interest is Criminal justice/law enforcement.

If you are wondering who is eligible when the education is in question, you should know that any law enforcement Explorer who is in the 12th grade, or in an accredited college program may apply.

How to Apply

The scholarship committee has determined some application requirements as well.

The eligible applicants are supposed to provide an essay, transcript and the proof which can demonstrate applicant’s leadership qualities and the academic achievements, as well as proof of eligibility

Other application requirements include certification from post advisor, head of the participating organization, Learning for Life representative, three letters of recommendation which should confirm to your candidacy for this scholarship and two of which should be from outside of law enforcement and  an additional essay on “How Will Technology Affect Law Enforcement in the 21st Century?”

Furthermore, the applicant must submit a black-and-white photo, preferably in uniform and original and four copies of all materials.
