The Barbara Odom-Wesley Spirit of Achievement Scholarship is named in honor of Barbara Odom-Wesley who has dedicated her life’s work to fill the world with successful educated professionals.

Full Description

This scholarship may be used at any two-year or four-year college or university and the amount awarded can be used for educational purposes such as tuition, books and other educational material.

Who's eligible?

The Barbara Odom-Wesley Spirit of Achievement Scholarship committee has determined some eligibility requirements that have to be fulfilled so that you can be accepted as a future scholar.

Please, do not apply if you do not meet the criteria.

The applicant has to be an African-American female high school senior attending school in Tarrant County or Grand Prairie, Texas.

Then, she has to have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.

You are advised to see the application for additional eligibility criteria once the application process starts.

Have in mind that trade, technical and cosmetology schools are ineligible for this scholarship.

How to Apply

The application process is very simple as it is made for all the people to be able to apply.

You are supposed to complete scholarship application as well as Community Service Verification.

Besides these two documents, you need to submit the official high school transcript which must be unopened with the counselor’s signature along the back of the envelope.

An unofficial transcript will not be accepted and will disqualify your application.

Then, you need to submit a proof of SAT or ACT scores which must be sealed and unopened.

Additionally, the applicant has to provide two letters of recommendation on official letterhead.

They need to be focused on student’s leadership and written by Teacher, Principal, Counselor of Community.

Last, but not least, an applicant has to write a 2-3 pages essay in which he/she will answer the question: How do you achieve excellence in leadership?
