This scholarship honors Dr. Arthur W. Pense, who was the NYS Assistant Commissioner of Mental Hygiene and was responsible for programs provided to people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities in the State of New York.

Arthur W. Pense Scholarship is designed to support a physical or occupational therapy degree program students and it awards $3,000 scholarship which is paid in two installments of $1,500 per semester.

So, each year, The Arc New York offers scholarships to individuals pursuing degrees in special education.

The application deadline is January 13th, so those who are interested in applying need to submit their applications prior to that moment.

Who's eligible?

The most important thing to have in mind when applying for any kind of scholarship is to check the eligibility criteria prior to submitting your application.

Actually, ineligible applicants are always rejected, so do not waste your time applying if you do not meet the following requirements:

You must be enrolled in a degree program in physical or occupational therapy and may include a 2-3 month fieldwork program as part of your degree.

You must be a New York State resident so as to be accepted as a possible winner.

People who are currently receiving a scholarship through The Arc New York are not eligible for the Arthur W. Pense Scholarship.

How to Apply

When it comes to the Application Requirements, besides the completed application form applicants need to submit one signed letter of recommendation from a current academic instructor.

It is very significant to remember that application must be signed by the PT/OT Department Chairperson

Once you complete the application and gather all the necessary additional documentation you are supposed to send them to The Arc New York State Office via mail, email or fax.
