Apprentice Ecologist Scholarship

The Apprentice Ecologist Initiative awards three scholarships to the authors of the three best Apprentice Ecologist essays and it is designed for young people who are eager to raise awareness in other people so that they all protect wildlife and the environment.

 

Full Description

The Apprentice Ecologist Initiative has been engaging young learners in environmental cleanup and conservation projects since its foundation in 1999.

The foundation wants to encourage the next generation of conservation leaders worldwide and give them financial support to keep on pursuing their dreams and strivings related to agriculture, nature, and the environment.

Who's eligible?

When thinking about the eligibility, it is good to know that both school and community groups who are working with at-risk and disadvantaged youth are encouraged to participate.

To be able to get the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative award, applicants should demonstrate personal leadership and environmental stewardship in their project and has to be enrolled at middle school, high school, or undergraduate college/university.

They need to be aged 13-21 in order to become an official Apprentice Ecologist.

How to Apply

The application process is done online and what you will need to do is to visit their official webpage, register and submit your essay.

That way you will automatically be considered for a scholarship.

The essays should be about your own environmental stewardship project and should be followed by a few digital photos.

The essays should be 750 to 1,500 words long and you should also include the description of your personal background and the reasons why you chose to do an Apprentice Ecologist project.

It is significant to mention and describe the area where you conducted your project.

Last, but not least, your opinion on why you think it is important to take care of the area where you conducted your project has to be mentioned.

Make sure you do this before the deadline on December 31.

The winners will be announced online on April 22.

Your project photo and essay will be published on the Global Registry of Apprentice Ecologists.

Some of the examples of successful projects that other Apprentice Ecologists have completed in the past are:

  • Removing and recycling the trash from a local park, river, beach, or another natural area
  • Planting native trees at a school, local park, or in a deforested area
  • Starting a community or school recycling/composting program
  • Protecting a terrestrial or aquatic area for native wildlife
  • Promoting the conservation of an endangered species or area
