A $1,000 annual scholarship awarded to current or incoming law students showing great promise and initiative.

Full Description

Boling Rice, LLC, is an Atlanta-based personal injury law firm (with offices also in Alpharetta, and Cumming, Georgia) assisting persons dealing with the legal issues various types of injuries engender.

They offer a yearly scholarship to promising law students in order to assist them with the financial stains their education causes (in terms of tuition fees, books, parking etc.)

The applicants must submit an essay on the topic of coercion in the case of commercial vehicle drivers.

As the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) argue, coercion occurs when a shipper, receiver, carrier or transportation intermediary threatens a certain driver with various types of punishments (withholding work, taking employment against etc.) due to the driver’s refusal to work outside the service hours or against several safety regulations.

In 2016, FMCSA issued the Prohibiting Coercion of Commercial Motor Vehicle (also known as the Coercion Rule) which allows drivers to report to FMCSA any incidents of coercion.

In their essays, the applicants must answer in detail the following questions regarding this issue: is the economic pressure in the motor carrier industry affecting drivers so that it engenders a negative impact on safety? Will the FMCSA Coercion Rule have an influence on the commercial and safety aspects of trucking industry?

The amount of the scholarship is $1,000 , the deadline for the application is December 31, 2019 and the winner will be notified by email.

Who's eligible?

Current or incoming law college students able to properly reply to the essay question proposed by Boling Rice, LLC.

How to Apply

By no later than December 31, 2019, applicants are required to submit by email their personal data (name, address, name of the college they are attending or they will attend in the near future) together with an essay on the topic of coercion in the case of commercial vehicle drivers (described above).
